Sisters of perpetual indulgence
One of the highlights of our Paris trip was meeting the french convent of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence…
For those of you who don’t know the Sisters of Perpetual indulgence, they are 21st century nuns for the queer, bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, intersex and kinky sexual communities. They are social activists and there are several orders around the world. Each order is a non-profit making charity which raises money for aids and other charities and community service organizations, helping to lead the campaign for safer sex and harm reduction and educating people on various human rights issues and against hate crime.
Originally, the organization included only gay male nuns, but it now includes people of all genders and orientations including homosexual, heterosexual, transgender & bisexual nuns.
The organization was started in 1979 in San Francisco, California and this ‘Motherhouse’ is now one of the fastest growing Holy Orders in the world. There are more than 600 nuns worldwide with new members joining regularly and new houses being established all the time.
As sister innocenta told us ‘’The Paris House was built in 1991. We are now around 25 members and we dedicate our lives to help people expediate stimagtic guilt, promote multi universal joy and fight against aids and homophobia.'’
